TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department warned drivers that its officers will be randomly enforcing speed limits throughout the month.

Deputies will deploy the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP). Drivers won't be told when or where traffic enforcement will occur. This is why PCSD strongly encouraged drivers to obey all local, state, and federal traffic laws.

"When drivers disregard the speed limit they are not only risking their own safety, but also the safety of everyone else on the road," PCSD stated in a release.

The department also cited the concerns of residents "who are concerned about speeders on their streets endangering other drivers, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and children. They are often aware of incidents such as 'near-misses' that are not reported to law enforcement."

PCSD recommended drivers be aware of enforcement efforts and observe speed limits.
