TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A man died Saturday morning when he was hit by a vehicle on the south side of Tucson, city police said.

Sgt. Kim Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman, said Gabriel Ramirez was struck near the intersection of West Valencia Road and South Fiesta Avenue.

The 41-year-old Ramirez was not in a crosswalk when he was hit around 2:30 a.m., according to Bay.

"The driver was westbound on Valencia, (when) Ramirez ran in front," the TPD said in a news release. "The driver was unable to stop (and) immediately pulled over and remained on scene. Mr. Ramirez was not in a crosswalk. Detectives are continuing this investigation to determine if speed was a factor in this collision."

Bay said the driver did not appear to be impaired and the TPD is investigating to see if Ramirez was intoxicated.
