Union Pacific reopens second rail line

MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The second rail line is back open Thursday, according to a Union Pacific news release. However, no official cause for the derailment has been released yet.

This was the line on which the train derailed during Tuesday's storms. Contractors and crews with UP worked the last day and a half to safely clear equipment from the track and make the necessary repairs to get the trains running.

According to UP work will continue as they move containers and the contents back onto rail cars or trucks for transport. Additional clearing and cleaning of the site will also be completed, during this time the frontage road will remain closed to vehicle traffic. UP is working with the Arizona Department of Transportation to determine when the road will reopen.

UP is thanking first responders for their assistance during the incident, and Marana residents for their patience during the clean up.
