MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A train derailment on Tuesday has now become a drug investigation, according to the Marana Police Department.
"Union Pacific Police recovered a package of suspected narcotics from the wreckage," said Union Pacific spokesman Jeff DeGraff. "There was no identifying packaging. It was turned over to Marana PD for destruction."
DeGraff also said that, "The condition of the package exposed the contents."
Tucson News Now reached out to MPD for comment but spokesman Chriswell Scott could not provide information due to the ongoing investigation.
The derailment scattered 40 shipping containers, many of which belonging to UPS, near the side of I-10 just past Twin Peaks Rd.
Crews continue to assess the damage and cleanup the area.
