Back-to-school event for teachers promises savings on school supplies

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A local non-profit is hosting a back-to-school event for teachers, allowing them to stock up their classrooms with low-cost school supplies.

The Treasurers 4 Teachers organization will kick off Moonlight Madness Tuesday, July 31 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 6800 N. Camino Martin, Suite #124.

On average, teachers in Tucson spend $1,500 or more out of their paychecks to supply their classrooms with basic needs.

The non-profit can give away 20-plus memberships and renewals to help teachers save on supplies. Additionally, there will be free gifts and a 50 percent off sale for current members to stock up before the first day of school.

This is all possible because of a grant from the Monsanto Fund, which is dedicated to strengthening communities where farmers and Monsanto Company employees live and  work.

Treasures 4 Teachers of Tucson was started by Adrienne Ledford. The retired local educator experienced firsthand how much it costs to stock a classroom.
