TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - University of Arizona students kicked off their yearly rummage sale Friday morning, Aug. 3.

People started lining up at 4 a.m. to take advantage of deals during the third annual "Dodge the Dumpster" sale at the UA Paul and Alice Baker Distribution Center.

Doors opened at 8 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m., both Friday and Saturday.

The items are collected from student dorms at the end of the previous semester. Organizers say the goal of the event is to keep the items out of the landfill.

"The goal is just to provide the community with ... with deals on stuff that they might be able to use, keep the stuff out of the landfill and support a dozen charities around Tucson and like the Nogales area," student organizer Michael Beauregard said.

The money raised goes back into the project for next year. Some items will be donated to southern Arizona charities.
