UPDATE: PCSD helicopter called in to transport rescued hiker to hospital

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The weekend was a busy one for crews rescuing hikers and Monday was no different - another day, another rescue.

This time at Catalina State Park in the Romero Pools area.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department said the call came in just after 10 a.m. Monday, when an 18 year-old woman was reportedly dehydrated about four miles away from the trailhead. She had been hiking with three other people.

The Southern Arizona Rescue Association sent five team members, with PCSD Search and Rescue to go up to help the woman. Rescuers got to the hiker, and she was given a mix of water and electrolytes to get rehydrated.

Once rescuers felt it was safe to walk down, they began the four- mile journey.

According to SARA, at the half way point the woman started to feel ill. PCSD called in their Sheriff 1 helicopter to come pick up the hiker, eventually bringing her down to safety.

She was put in a Golder Ranch Fire ambulance and taken to a local hospital with heat related injuries.

Over the weekend, PCSD said they responded to a total of 23 heat-related rescues.
