One person sent to hospital after firefighters extinguish midtown fire

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - One person was taken to a hospital after being overcome by smoke from a fire in an apartment on Tuesday night, Aug. 14.

According to a news release from the Tucson Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to the fire in the 900 block of North Alvernon Way, near East Speedway Boulevard, at about 10 p.m.

Firefighters found and extinguished a fire from the stove just over a minute after arriving on the scene.

Firefighters Brian Anguiz and Daniel Harris found one unresponsive victim in the smoke-filled apartment. The person regained responsiveness after being treated by paramedics.

No further details about the patient were immediately available.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause and origin of the fire. Damages have not yet been estimated.
