COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (AP) - Authorities in Cochise County say a 77-year-old man has died after the car he was driving got stuck in flooded wash.

County Sheriff's officials didn't immediately release the man's name Wednesday, Aug. 15.

They say the incident occurred about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 in the unincorporated community of Cochise.

The man called authorities to say water was halfway up the outside of his vehicle and was continuing to rise.

He stayed on the cellphone and later said the water was inside of the vehicle and up to the dashboard and he was getting into the backseat.

Authorities say the cellphone then disconnected.

A search and rescue crew later located the vehicle and say the man inside was dead.
