MARANA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Marana Unified School District has reprimanded the principal responsible for staging an unauthorized active shooter drill during a staff meeting.

The incident happened Aug. 1 at Gladden Farms Elementary School, catching police and some administrators by surprise.

The district issued the following statement on Friday, Aug. 17:

Nancy Paddock, principal of Gladden Farms Elementary, has been issued a formal Letter of Reprimand as a result of the incident that occurred during a staff meeting at her school on August 1.  The Letter of Reprimand indicates that Ms. Paddock displayed a lack of professional judgment resulting in an adverse impact on staff and the school community. This action, taken by the Marana Unified School District, is aligned with MUSD Board Policies GBEA (Staff Ethics) and GBEB (Staff Conduct).  Formal letters of reprimand are placed in employees' personnel file.

Nancy Paddock has served as the school's principal since it opened in 2016.
