OVERTIME: Special teams key in Flowing Wells victory

Football is indeed a family

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Flowing Wells answered every punch that Canyon de Oro threw at them in the season-opener at the Mead Athletic Arena Friday night and in the end, the Caballeros had a kicker too.

The Cabs (1-0) beat the Dorados 38-37 in our KOLD Overtime Game of the Week to start the 2018 high school football season.

CDO (0-1) led 31-23 early in the 4th quarter when Flowing Wells mounted their comeback.

Senior quarterback Zachary Jurado hit Michael Effing on a 17-yard touchdown strike and the Cabs converted on a two-point conversion to tie the game.

They took the lead just under four minutes later when Rashad Henderson dashed 37 yards for his second touchdown of the game.

Dorados sophomore running back Stevie Rocker ran for three touchdowns on the night including the potential tying score with just under four minutes to go in the game.

But CDO would miss the extra point try and that put the cap on a disastrous special teams night that saw the Dorados fail to covert a point after on five of their six touchdowns.

Canyon del Oro went for two points after their first three touchdowns and failed to convert on all three.

Flowing Wells won the third phase of the game 8-to-1 as the Cabs converted one-of-two two-point conversions and adding a 38-yard field goal from senior Andres Castro.
