NOGALES, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Heavy rains and a strong current damaged a concrete barrier in the Nogales wash Thursday, Aug. 23.
A large portion of the concrete bank protection failed and broke free as the water levels rose in the wash with the continuous rain. It appeared at least three concrete panels had been damaged, with one in the middle of the wash.
Emergency management crews were on Morley Avenue Thursday afternoon, taking a look at the damage as water levels receded to see the full extent of the situation.
Santa Cruz County Emergency Management told our crews on the scene the city is working with the railroad company to figure out a way to fix it, and make sure the situation doesn't get any worse.
Nogales Police said the damaged wash was the worst situation from the storms Thursday and luckily, it is not a public safety issue.
