UA adjunct professor facing child porn charges

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - An adjunct professor at the University of Arizona was arrested for alleged child pornography violations on Thursday, Aug. 23.

According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Peter Cotty was booked into the Pima County Jail on five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

PCSD received several cyber tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The cyber tips indicated that an Electronic service provider was reporting one of their users had uploaded what they thought was child pornography through their website.

Detectives with the PCSD Internet Crimes Against children unit viewed the reported images and deemed that the uploads depicted images of children under the age of 18 nude and engaging in various sexual acts.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined Cotty was the alleged user.

PCSD obtained a search warrant for Cotty's residence. During the execution of the search warrant several electronic devices were located within the residence.

During the examination of this equipment, detectives located several images and videos that violate ARS 13-3553 Sexual Exploitation of a Minor a class 2 Felony.
