TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The sprint toward the November general election is on. Two women will battle it out to be the next representative for Arizona's Second Congressional District.

Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick will take on the Republican nominee, Lea Marquez-Peterson.

Peterson has served Arizona before in the First Congressional District, and lost a race for the Senate. She says that experience would help her work across the political aisle if she gets to Washington.

"It gives me the ability to go to Congress and build the kind of relationship with my colleagues regardless of party and get things done," she said.

Marquez-Peterson is new to politics. She says that's not a disadvantage.

"This is the first time I've run, but I'm not a newcomer to southern Arizona. I've been active in different leadership roles, I've been in southwest Arizona, and in tune with what's happening in the Second Congressional District. I think that's an advantage over Ms. Kirkpatrick," she said.
