Sahuarita teen hurt in hit and run, suspect in police custody

SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Sahuarita police have a hit and run suspect, identified as 21-year-old Nichole Carson in custody.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 when a 17-year-old, riding his bike was hit by a car while in a crosswalk at Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard near the North Santa Cruz Park.

The teen was able to ride his bike back to his house and call 911, giving police a description of the person who hit him as a female with long blonde hair, driving an older Buick Sentry.  According to SPD the teen also said the car stopped for a moment and then left heading northbound.

He was left with an injured foot.

On Wednesday morning an SPD officer was patrolling in the neighborhood and saw a vehicle that matched the description of the hit and run vehicle.  The officer also noticed damage to the car that was consistent with that type of crash.

According to SPD, the officer made contact with Carson, who reportedly told police that she was the driver who had hit the bicyclist on Tuesday.

Carson was arrested and booked on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injury.

Anyone who may have seen the crash is asked to contact Sahuarita Police Department through 911 or the SPD Hotline 344-7847.
