TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The single largest volunteering event in southern Arizona is looking for volunteers to make this years "Days of Caring" the best ever.
The United Way's annual "Days of Caring" attracted more than 4100 volunteers last year.
"Some of those memories I will hold forever," says Linda Drake, who says she plans to volunteer again during this years event, which is in its 19th year. "I always make new friends, and gain such a feeling of satisfaction knowing I have done my part to help the community."
For nearly two decades, dozens of project ideas are submitted to United Way over the summer months, who then send their army of volunteers to work during the 2 day event. This year "Days of Caring" will be held October 19-20.
"We put out a call to non-profits, schools, daycare facilities, really anyone in the community that needs help with a project," says Melissa D'Auria, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications for United Way in Tucson.
"This is a perfect opportunity to get to know your community better," says Drake.
In 2017 volunteers worked on or completed 127 different projects across southern Arizona.
"Ben's Bells, Humane Society, Community Food Bank all have projects listed," says D'Auria. "It's a great thing to do with your family, sports team, business, or church group. It is a great way to give back to Tucson."
