SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Sierra Vista Police Department arrested an Elfrida man for sexual exploitation of a minor, following an investigation stemming from an Aug. 23 report that he was viewing illicit photos at the Sierra Vista Public Library.
According to SVPD, witnesses stated they saw 77-year-old Richard Albright, looking at illicit photos on a library computer on Aug. 23. During the investigation SVPD detectives with the Special Operations Bureau, with help from witness statements identified Albright, a registered sex offender, as the suspect.
With help from the City of Sierra Vista IT Department, detectives were able to secure digital evidence of Albright's attempts and connections to illicit child image sites, along with other evidence of the crime.
"We have equipment that filters and logs all web traffic at the Library," said Jeff McDaniel, senior system administrator for the City in a recent news release. The filter monitors and logs attempts to visit unauthorized sites.
"We make our patrons' safety a top priority," said Laura Wilson, leisure and library services director, in the news release. "We are grateful to the patrons who reported that the public computers were being used in this way." The tip, and SVPD's intervention, returned the Library "to the family-friendly space it should be."
On Wednesday, Sept. 5, Albright was arrested without incident around the 400 block of Bartow in Sierra Vista. He is currently being held without bail.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact SVPD Detective Ransford at (520) 452-7500.
