Records: Intel to layoff 100 more workers at Chandler plant

CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — Major American chipmaker Intel appears to be undergoing another round of layoffs in Arizona, according to state records.

A WARN Act notice filed with the Arizona Department of Economic Security dated Monday indicates 97 employees at Intel’s Chandler location will be affected. WARN notices are federally mandated 60-day notices before a mass layoff.

Last month, Arizona’s Family reported that nearly 700 Intel workers in the East Valley were being laid off amid ongoing restructuring and financial woes for the chipmaker.

The move comes days after President Donald Trump announced that the federal government secured a 10% stake in the struggling Silicon Valley pioneer in a deal completed weeks after he depicted the company’s CEO as a conflicted leader unfit for the job.

“The United States of America now fully owns and controls 10% of INTEL, a Great American Company that has an even more incredible future,” Trump wrote in a post.

The stake is coming primarily through U.S. government grants to Intel through the CHIPS and Science Act, which was initiated under then-President Joe Biden’s administration as a way to foster more domestic manufacturing of computer chips and reduce dependence on overseas factories.
