NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE/Gray News) - A 5-year-old in Indiana was staying overnight with friends when he suddenly died, according to his parents.

Jagger Wing’s parents say they are not only dealing with the loss of their son but also with the fact that they still don’t know why it happened.

Alex Wing, Jagger’s mother, said he was playing at a friend’s house and everything seemed normal when his parents got a call that he was unresponsive.

“He had played hard outside,” said Alex Wing. “He was with his friends. He was staying the night at a friend’s house when it happened. My best friend of 17 years and I can’t imagine that feeling and situation. I hate that I wasn’t there.”

Jagger was rushed to the hospital, but died shortly after.

His parents say Jagger loved Spider-Man, eating healthy snacks and meeting new friends wherever he went.

“Jagger was going to start kindergarten this August. He just learned how to ride a bike. He loved to be active. He loved to question everything we were doing. He liked to know it all and protect it all. He was definitely a protector of his sisters,” Alex Wing said.

He also shared his father’s love of mixed martial arts, starting wrestling at just 4 years old.

They were frequent visitors to Nice Guy Submission Fighting, a martial arts school in Evansville.

The organization has set up a fundraiser to support the family.

“He wanted to wrestle,” Damon Wing, Jagger’s father, said. “There was no sitting on your butt. He wanted to try for a double leg. He watched every UFC fight with me. He just loved the game.”

His parents say his death was a complete shock, and doctors are still trying to determine the cause.

Right now, they’re looking to see if he had any heart conditions.

The Wings say there’s a history of heart conditions in their family, so their daughters have also been tested to see if a condition was passed down.

So far, their tests have come back normal.
