TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a cab driver was sentenced to life in prison Monday.

Ruben Archunde, 22, admitted to shooting 27-year-old Timothy Royce for money. Archunde was looking to find a way to bail a friend out of jail and needed cash for the bond.

Archunde opted for a judge to decide his fate instead of a jury.

The sentence of life in prison included 34 years for armed robbery, which will be served concurrently with the life term.

Detectives say Archunde shot the cab driver for money they believe he needed to bail out a friend.

Royce's body was found in an alley near the University of Arizona March 2008. Police arrested the suspects a week later.
